Munnar is one of Kerala's most-visited hill destinations, and most visitors arrive by road from Kochi - either straight from the airport or after a day or two in the city.
The drive covers roughly 120-130 kilometres and takes four to five hours, running through Angamaly, Kothamangalam, and Adimali before climbing into the tea estates.
The stretch past Adimali is where the route turns scenic - waterfalls by the roadside, sharp turns, and a noticeable drop in temperature as you gain altitude.
September through March is the most comfortable window - clear roads, cooler air, and good visibility on the ghat sections. Monsoon months bring landslide risk on the upper stretches, so an early start helps if you're travelling then.
Most families prefer an Innova Crysta for this route since it manages the hill curves comfortably and has enough boot space for a few days' luggage.
